Time for our summer reading list again! Indeed, we want to keep feeding our brains with the latest and greatest to help our teaching, research and consulting endeavors. So, here are a few titles currently in our beach bags: Start with Why, by Simon Sinek - indeed, too often we find managers and business owners spinning their wheels with What they do and How they do it, without paying heed to the importance of Why. This goes to the heart of Value Proposition design....do yourself a favor and give it a read. American Icon, by Bryce Hoffman - Mike assigned this book in his MBA course focused on turnaround...and is now recommending it to everyone else. The story of Alan Mulally's epic turnaround of Ford is chockfull of insights on strategy, business model design and leadership. A must read! Mike's getting into cryptocurrency...Bitcoin, Ether, etc. What is it, where does it fit in the global economy, etc.? To help answer these questions, he is turning to The Age of Cryptocurrency: How Bitcoin and the Blockchain Are Challenging the Global Economic Order, by P. Vigna and J.Casey. Lastly, but not a book, is the recently launched Podcast series titled How I Built This (NPR). One of Mike's undergraduate students turned him onto this series ("Thank you, Quinn!") where you can hear first-hand an entrepreneur's story. To date, personalities include Mark Cuban, 5-Hour Energy's Manoj Bhargava, Blake Mycoskie of Toms Shoes, and numerous others. Very insightful and very entertaining. Happy Summer, folks!
